“To sit for one’s portrait is like being present at one’s own creation.” – Alexander Smith
Portrait commissions are a mainstay of my commercial practice. I work with clients in the UK and around the world to create not just a likeness but a sense of the person as they wish to be portrayed. In-person sittings are best but I do work from photos and occasionally from death masks or other sculptures as necessary. My processes and personal aesthetics work towards realism which instils believability into the piece. Read More Portraiture is also about capturing your personality as well as your best aspect and that’s the key to really successful and beautiful work. There is almost an unlimited range of materials and finishes you can choose that hint at that personality, from fibreglass or glass to classical bronze or marble. With the exception of my father, all the portraits shown are commissions for private customers. I have been working with the human body for more than thirty years. After many years working as a sculptor on feature films it has been a real pleasure to move from movies to private commissions. I tend to work life size but also at smaller scales if required. I utilise the latest materials and processes alongside traditional casting processes. 3D scanning, printing and milling where appropriate allows for accurate reductions and enlargements as well as life size reproduction. I sometimes produce several casts from one mould, for instance for siblings to all have a sculpture of a parent. If you’d like to ask about commissioning a portrait please email me with your ideas or phone for a chat. I have worked with A-listers, Royals, CEOs etc and my discretion is assured.
