“Artists to my mind are the real architects of change, and not the political legislators who implement change after the fact.” ― William S. Burroughs
A picture is worth a thousand words. All these artworks comment in some way on our vulnerabilities as humans. They seek to have real world affects and start conversations, rather than just moaning about stuff. Since crewing on a peace boat in the Atlantic, when I was 18 years old, I have believed in direct action. If you don’t like something about society then change it. Art can be a powerful engine of social reform. My ‘Experimental Art’ degree professors (both Vietnam veterans and one a Native American) helped me to understand how to harness that power. Since 1987 art has been my soapbox, using arresting visuals mixed with humour or shock, with a focus on: equality, social injustice, conflict, health, addiction, body anxiety, non-violent resistance and the environment. You may not agree with everything but you must agree with my right to say it. Let us at least have the conversations.
