I became interested in Hindu deities whilst working in India. In Shaktism she is the supreme being; the concept, or personification, of divine feminine creative power. She is dependent on no one but interdependent with the entire universe. The Aryan Swastika widely used in Indian Religions, primarily as a tantric symbol to evoke ‘shakti’ or the sacred symbol of auspiciousness. Here she makes the form of the swastika in the clockwise direction to claim back that symbol from Nazism. She looks ancient and divine lying on that sumptuous fur, her skin tones melding beautifully with the tones of the animal furs.
