Two female nude sculptures one posed on top of the other in a suggested lesbian sexual encounter. They a lean and tall, demonstrating the typical figures of fashion models but all is not as it seems. This is not a fantasy encounter for the male gaze but instead a comforting embrace woman to woman in a world of pain.
They are both cut off mid-chest and legs and on the flat ends are inscribed words. These detail their modelling information and vital statistics, reducing them down to the data that signifies their value in the toxic world of fashion modelling. This commodification of women by the industry is exploitative and unethical leaving in its wake a trail of damaged women and girls, all in the name of profit. Their vital stats also clearly demonstrate malnourishment.
She was commissioned for a private home in Florida with the clients’ chosen models. But I was give free reign to interpret and present them with my own socio-political stance drawing on their personalities and personhood. Presented in two slightly different coloured metals, a contrast is visible between the warmer silver tones of tin above and the colder aluminium silver below. These reflect the models’ skin tones but also one’s warmth and the other’s coolness to this embrace.
