“I hate it. I hate taxidermy shops and all that crap” – Michael Jackson
This series of taxidermy reworked as visual and verbal puns with sexual overtones have earned Jamie as many detractors as enthusiasts. He uses long dead creatures ethically sourced from vintage stores, thrift shops, auctions and eBay and gives them a new lease of life.
These terrible taxidermy chimera are in some cases quite disturbing and in others just silly. One’s reaction depends perhaps on your connection to that particular species. Humour and puns have been integral to Jamie’s work all through his long career. The humour is often a way to get people to engage with tricky subjects but here it is just for the fun of it.
